Northeast is full of adventure sports. Meghalaya is known for its adventure games and sports. One of its games is the Shillong Teer game which is traditionally known as “Thoh Tim” by the locals. In Hindi “Teer” means arrow. This game is related with the game of archery. Shillong Teer is a lottery game based on dreams and archery. It is a very simple game.
This game is being played since centuries by the Khasi tribe of Shillong, in the state of Meghalaya. In the evening it is played every day, except for Sundays and Holidays, by the locals. A group of archers shoot arrows in to the target and the crowd of people has to predict the target number before the shooting of the arrow begins.
Shillong Teer games entertain the local crowd as well as the tourists who are interested in viewing the game. Shillong Teer game is played only by men. Women have not participated in this game till date. So it is safe to say that, the game is women friendly in terms of playing but women are allowed to watch the game. Shillong Teer game is played mostly by elder men. Shillong Teer game is an outdoor game.

The government passed the Meghalaya Amusement and Betting Tax Act 1982 in which the Shillong Teer game was legalized. Since then, the game is enjoyed by people all over the place to just watch the game or to participate in the betting. This game has helped people without employment to earn sufficient money to survive even in the Covid-19 pandemic..
